Dr. Marisol Capellan

Episode 58: Afrolatinidad and Inclusion: What Leaders Need to Know

Meet Dr. Marisol Capellan, an Afro-Latina, mother, and immigrant who is passionate about empowering women and minorities to overcome barriers in their career paths.

Dr. Capellan is a Dominican leader, educator, coach, and author who is on a mission to empower women and minorities to achieve their full potential. We talked about her inspiring journey from growing up in poverty in the Dominican Republic to becoming an internationally recognized and award-winning professional.

She shared with us the stories of resilience and perseverance that shaped her mindset and her passion for education. She also opened up about the challenges and barriers that communities of color face in higher education and in the corporate world, and how that forces us to work twice as hard to achieve our goals.

We also discussed the differences between Latinidad and Afro-latinidad, and the colorism that exists within the Latinx community. She challenged us to question our assumptions and biases, and to aspire to a more inclusive and authentic leadership style that celebrates our diversity and identity.

This episode is full of wisdom, insights, and inspiration for anyone who wants to learn more about leadership, diversity, equity and inclusion, and Afro-latinidad.
